Srinagar, Oct 28: After recent attacks on non-local labourers in Kashmir, the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKMIS) in Soura has advised the non-local employees to relocate to the institute’s campus, and those who ignore the instruction and remain outside the campus will be doing so at their own risk.
The order was issued in reaction to a series of attacks on non-locals in the Valley, and it was issued to assure safe lodgings for non-local employees and to limit the chance of attack.
“All doctors and nursing/paramedical employees from outside the Valley working at SKIMS who are residing off the Institute grounds are requested to relocate immediately to the SKIMS campus”, reads an order.
The order says that the Estates Department has prepared accommodation for non-local personnel who are staying in various parts of the city. “They should contact the Estates Department, who have arranged for their accommodation within the Campus,” it says.
According to the order, Employees who disobey the order and remain outside the campus do so at their own risk. “The arrangements have been made on the Government’s directions, and anyone who continues to reside outside the institute campus even after these instructions will be doing so at his or her own risk and responsibility,” the order stated.
The move has scared the non-local employees, who believe they are being dragged into politics unnecessarily. “We have never felt so afraid, but we want to be clear that we have nothing to do with politics and have chosen this profession to save people’s lives,” a non-local employee who did not want to be identified said.
