Locals protest for repair of Rathian East road

UDHAMPUR, Oct 30: Agitated over the worst condition of Mahatma Gandhi Marg at Rathian East road connecting with National Highway to Dhaar road, Satani locals held a strong protest at village Rathian East, here today.
The protesting villagers were raising slogans against the Public Works Department and the district administration. “This road namely Mahatma Gandhi Marg road, measuring about one km is still awaiting Government attention despite it being in the heart of the city and an important link road to the National Highway passing through Rathian and Phangyal to Dhar road old National Highway,” they said.
Apart from the fact that this road leads to a prominent institution and serves as link route for some Govt educational institutions in the vicinity, local populace of adjoining areas and scores of Rathian residents use this Mahatma Gandhi Marg for reaching their destinations.
The residents said that estimate of this road was prepared by the PWD many times but the funds required for the construction work were never sanctioned till date. They lament that despite Rathian falling hardly three kilometers from the district headquarter and the new National Highway passing through the area, the administration was not taking cognizance of the public grievance.
