SAMBA, Nov 1: Apni Party Provincial president for Jammu, Manjit Singh has sought attention of Govt towards the unending sufferings of farmers.
He was addressing a monthly meeting of workers in Vijaypur in which review of political activities and problems of the people were discussed threadbare.
Speaking during the meeting, Manjit Singh said that farmers are being discriminated with regard to their issues. “They are facing multiple problems but the administration is not waking up from the deep slumber. It appears they will never be fulfilled and their issues continue to remain unaddressed,” he said, and pointed out massive losses suffered by the farmers in the recent hailstorm which destroyed their paddy crops yet the compensation was not released following assessment of the losses.
“The repeated demands for waiving off KCC loan also went unheard and the farmers were not assured by the ground in the matter,” he said.
He demanded that the electricity charges of farmers should be waived off in a bid to provide them relief at the time of crisis.
He said that the prices of essential commodities have gone up which are not bearable for the common masses.
The Govt should hold a review of the situation on an emergency basis and bring down the prices of the commodities, he said and demanded that an expert committee should be constituted in J&K to look into the emerging situation.
Manjit said that the prices of the essential commodities should be brought under control so that the common masses, poor especially, can be able to buy them. The earning capacity of people has declined and the essential commodities prices have increased which is a serious concern for the people and Govt must look into it.
