BJP loses VC’s post to Cong in Gho Manasa after cross voting

JAMMU, Nov 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced an embarrassing situation in Gho Manasa Municipal Committee after it lost the elections for the post of vice chairperson to Congress the election of which was held today.
As per sources the infighting in the party unit between the two groups has been cause of the defeat of the party candidate Manohar Lal. Sources said that despite the party has a strength of five members in seven member house while the Congress has only two councilors the cross voting by two BJP councilors led to the defeat of party candidate by a solitary vote causing an embarrassing situation for the party.
Sources said the election for the post of vice chairperson had become due after the party’s some councilors had sought removal of former VC Krishan Lal over a month back necessitating the election today. However in the cross voting BJP candidate Manohar Lal lost the election to Congress candidate Ram Pal alias Bittu.
The Congress candidate got four votes while BJP candidate got three votes in five member house while the BJP has strength of five members and Congress has the strength of two members only. It may be recalled that the post of Chairman and Vice Chairman was with BJP which had the majority in the house. But after serving of No Trust Motion against the former Vice Chairman necessitated the fresh elections in which party suffered a humiliating defeat.
