SAMBA, Nov 5: Apni Party Provincial president for Jammu and former Minister Manjit Singh has demanded property rights for the Displaced Persons of 1965 and 1971 whose right on the property has been denied for the last several decades.
The former Minister was addressing a public meeting at Sordi village in Samba. District president, Samba, Raman Thappa also accompanied Manjit Singh along with other leaders and workers.
During meeting, people highlighted various issues being faced by them and all of them were concerned over the no property rights on the land they are tilling or holding from the last many decades.
“Their third generation is growing on the property but they do not have any right. Whenever, any development project comes, the displaced persons are not given compensation even as they have the right to claim it,” he said.
Singh said that the Govt should not linger on their issue of property rights and give it without delaying it further.
“These DPs are poor and do labour work in vegetable markets in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. By giving them rights on the property, these poor people will be unable to claim various benefits of the Govt schemes,” he said.
He further demanded that the Indian Army, J&K Police and Paramilitary forces must hold on spot recruitment rallies in the International Border belt so that the youth can be recruited in the security forces. Singh said that the people are concerned about the pending compensation for DPs of 1965 and 1971 which is still not given to all the families.
“The first compensation is not given to all the families. The left-out families must be given compensation at the earliest. The DPs have complained that the tehsil offices have become hub of corrupt practices and do not clear their compensation files of the DPs in lieu of money. It is imperative for the administration to keep a check on such elements who are delaying the process of compensation,” he said.
Highlighting public friendly policies and agenda of Apni Party, he said that if we come to power, Apni Party will give 500 units of free electricity in summers and 300 units of electricity in winters to the people of Jammu region.
