Srinagar, Nov 11: Two militants were killed in two separate encounters is Srinagar and Kulgam today.

A militant was killed in an encounter at Chawalgam village of South Kashmir district of Kulgam today while another was killed in Srinagar in a brief shoot out.
An encounter broke out between security forces and the militants after contact with the militants was established in the afternoon.
Police, Army’s 9 RR and the CRPF cordoned off the area and offered surrender to the hiding militants. The militants refused to surrender and instead fired at the security forces. In the ensuing gunfight, one unidentified militant was killed.
Police said that the operation got delayed due to the darkness and that the cordon layers have been tightened to ensure remaining militants aren’t able to flee. “Lights have been installed to keep a watch on the spot where militants are hiding,” they said.
A militant was killed in a brief shootout at Bemina area of Srinagar district this evening.
Police said that a militant was killed in an encounter in Bemina area of Srinagar and one AK rifle along with ammunition was recovered from the encounter site. Searches in the area are going on.
The operation was conducted by police and CRPF after a tip off.
In the meantime, police and CRPF conducted search operation and frisking at Saraibala and its adjoining areas in Srinagar today.
Police and the CRPF conducted surprise search and frisking operation in Saraibala area of the city and its adjoining areas as part of the stepped up vigil in the Srinagar district in the wake of recent spate of killing of civilians and policemen.
“Pedestrians were frisked while shopkeepers were also asked to provide details about salesmen etc,” an official said. CRPF personnel were also seen checking identity cards of pedestrians and frisking vehicles.
An official said that frisking operations have been intensified in Srinagar in the wake of recent killings of civilians and policemen. “People are requested to cooperate with the police,” he added.
