POONCH, Nov 13: The forest fire in Salwah area of Mendhar Sub Division created scare in the adjoining hamlets and villages today.
Official sources said that fire broke out in Forest Compartment No. 171/M near Chhungan village in Chhatral area of Salwah forest block at around 1 pm on Saturday. The locals of the area reported the matter to Forest staff at Mendhar.
On the directions of Range Officer Mendhar, the team led by Forester/Block officer Salwah rushed to the area and launched operation. Some locals of the area also joined. The fire could be controlled at around 3.30 pm. More than eight acre forest area was affected in forest fire. Many animals and plant species were also destroyed in the incident, the sources added.
