Man arrested for attempting to torch locality entrance gate

UDHAMPUR, Nov 14: An alleged attempt was made to torch the newly built entrance gate of Ward number 1 of Subash Nagar, Udhampur, here late last night.
The accused was caught hold by some locals, who later handed him over to Police Station Udhampur where a case FIR under Section 435 and 512 has been registered in this connection. However, Police did not reveal identity of the accused and said that the matter was under investigation.
Giving details, Councilor of Ward number 1, Priti Khajuria informed that the incident took place last night around 11pm when some locals noticed the accused climbing on the entrance gate number 5 and spraying petrol. The accused was caught by the locals and then handed over to police.
It may be recalled that two months back, some unidentified miscreants had thrown black ink on the name plate of this entrance gate, which was inaugurated and dedicated by the local Councilor to the public on the same day, as part of beautification work.
Locals have demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and strict action against the elements responsible for such provocations.
