JAMMU, Nov 16: Doctors at Ankur Maitrika performed a complex Primary PCI in the middle of the night of a young patient with ongoing heart attack having an unusual anomalous LCX with tortuous coarse through radial route.
A young male with inferior wall MI (heart attack) who was thrombolysed with a clot dissolving drug in a peripheral hospital that had not worked successfully and was tossing with chest pain was presented to Ankur Maitrika Hospital in the middle of night on November 11, 2021.
He was immediately shifted to cathlab and angiography through radial route (through arm) was performed, which showed a 80 per cent stenosis in right coronary artery and normal left anterior descending artery, the third most important artery of heart was missing from its normal site of origin and after looking thoroughly for its usual anomalous origin it could not be found out but with an experience of more than 1000 primary angioplasties at his back Dr Syed Maqbool along with Dr Nasir Ali found the artery arising at a very unusual site with the help of wire surfing and found that this artery had 99 per cent occlusion in the middle with distal TIMI 1 flow and a tortuous coarse. This artery as well as the right sided artery were both stented successfully with a great result. Patient was discharged next day and is doing well.
Dr Syed Maqbool said that winter has approached and the number of heart attacks is going to surge. He said that that a lot of people at young age less than forty years are getting heart attacks and smoking is the biggest risk factor it in addition to other risk factors. He appealed to the young people to refrain from smoking and in case of any symptoms immediately consult a doctor/ hospital. He further said that although treatment of cardiac diseases has advanced beyond imagination but prevention remains the cornerstone therapy.
