Srinagar, Nov 16: Law students of Kashmir University demanded online exams today, threatening to go on an extended hunger strike in front of Raj Bhawan if their demands were not met in the next four days.
Scores of students gathered in a Press Enclave to protest the University’s hasty announcement of an exam schedule for offline tests. Students urged that their exams be held online and that they be given enough time to prepare.
The students said that despite an increase in the number of COVID cases at the University, they are being forced to take offline exams. “Why didn’t they open University in the last 20 months if they believe COVID 19 is not a threat? As cases of the infection are on the rise in Srinagar, we are fearful of contracting it and passing it on to our family members,” a protesting student stated.
He informed that when the school began offline classes near the end of the academic year in October, the majority of students who had not obtained both doses of vaccine were denied admission to the campus.
Students in the L.L.B 2nd, 4th, and 5th Semesters, as well as BA L.L.B students, were taken aback by the decision, alleging that the administration had told them their request will be addressed. “Recently, we presented formal representation articulating our demands and visited with the department’s chief to receive assurances.”
They insisted that their exams be held online in February or March the following year because the Covid 19 pandemic hampered their studies.  “Our exams should be held online, and we should be given adequate preparation time. They should follow the format that has been in use for the past two years,” another student suggested.
