SRINAGAR, July 24: Appealing the people of Budgam to defeat the designs of divisive elements, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said the violent incidents in the district might be isolated in nature but they are causing tremendous pain and anxiety among the entire Kashmir society.
He was speaking at a special meeting convened by him to discuss the unfortunate events resulting from a small altercation between two individuals in the Central Kashmir district.
Senior party leaders Tariq Hameed Qarra, Abdul Rehman Veeri MLA, Rafi Ahmad Mir MLA, Naeem Akhtar Chief spokesperson, Peer Mohammad Hussain, Syed Farooq Andrabi and several others were also present in the meeting.
Mufti said the incidents are a clear violation of the principles of Islam and Kashmir’s centuries old tradition of tolerance and brotherhood among various communities and sects. He said the holy month of Ramzan should inspire us to sink differences if any. It is sad that instead of taking full benefit of the spiritual environment of this month a handful of people are trying to divide the community for their petty interests. He said this is the month of helping the poor and the needy and it is highly deplorable that some people have been rendered destitute during this month as a result of  the destruction of their homes and property.
Appreciating the call of religious leaders and civil society stakeholders for restoration of peace Mufti said it is a matter of satisfaction that some prominent persons from the district have swung into action and are trying to neutralize the impact of disruptive forces. However, he regretted that there were reports of inadequacy in the response from the administration which at many places has added to the anger of the people and distress of the victims. He said the sole objective of the administration at this crucial juncture should be to restore peace and take every concerned person on board and secure their assistance.
