In cleanliness ranking, SMC’s Khanyar ward figures at top, Chanapora slips

Srinagar, Nov 24: Srinagar Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) Ward Khanyar has topped the cleanliness ranking after securing 282 points out of 300 while Ward Lal Chowk has secured the second slot followed by Ward Zaina Kadal which have secured 281 points each, however, last time’s top performer Chanapora has slipped down.
It is to be noted here that the SMC regularly carries out an internal review of the cleanness parameters in all the 35 wards falling under its jurisdiction and assigns the required points and on the overall points secured the rankings are decided.
However, this time over, Ward Chanapora which earlier topped the cleanness rankings has not been able to perform as per the expectation and has slipped to slot 22 after it secured 268 points only out the points assigned in the various parameters determining the ranking.
With regard to the wards that have figured in the ‘Good’ category, it includes Parimpora, Nowshera, Zakoora, Nai Sarak, Nishat, Laway Pora, Jawahar Nagar, Bemina, Kralyar, Karan Nagar, Humhama and Islamyarbal.
The wards that have figured in the ‘Satisfactory’ category include Makhdoom Sahib, Hawal, Khumani Chowk, Magarmal Bagh, Hazratbal, Batapora, Chanapora, Dal, Soura and Qamerwari.
As per the rankings, Ward Batamaloo, Palpora have figured in the ‘Poor’ category and have secured 261, 260 points each while figuring at the bottom slots of the ranking.
As per further details, Ward Khanyar has secured 94 points out of 100 in Sweeping while as in the case of garbage lifting the ward has secured over 94 points out of 100. Concerning the parameter of Elimination of Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs), the ward has secured 93 points. Ward Lal Chowk has secured similar points.
With regard to the Ward Chanapora, it has figured satisfactorily in Garbage Lifting and GVPs. As per the parameters, ward Palpora while faring poor has also performed poorly in the case of garbage lifting as well as the GVPs including that of Ward Batamaloo.
Officials told Excelsior that the cleanness parameters are regularly reviewed and accordingly the rankings are assigned while adding that such periodic reviews help in improving the overall parameters in the different wards.
“It is a periodic exercise which we conduct through an independent agency that has been hired for the same. The wards that perform poorly are accordingly directed to improve the same by undertaking further works aiming at improving the same while as those that perform well are asked to maintain the same,” the officials said.
