JMC initiatives improve Jammu ranking in Swachh Survekshan

JAMMU, Nov 24: Jammu has shown improvement in Swachh Survekshan ranking -2021 because of various initiatives taken by Jammu Municipal Corporation with regard to sanitation aspects.
This was stated by Mayor JMC, Chander Mohan Gupta while addressing a press conference, here today in the presence of Commissioner JMC, Avny Lavasa, Chairmen, Public Health Sanitation Committee, Narinder Singh, Social Justice Committee, Kuldeep Singh and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Committee, Yash Paul Sharma.
The Mayor highlighted various initiatives undertaken by JMC in ensuring 100 percent door to door collection of segregated solid waste, deployment of new waste collection vehicles/autos, IEC campaign and plastic campaign, etc.
Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India. It was launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, aimed to make India clean and free of open defecation by 2nd October 2019. The first survey was undertaken in 2016 and covered 73 cities; by 2020 the survey had grown to cover 4242 cities and was said to be the largest cleanliness survey in the world.
ULB Jammu Ranking in Swachh Survekshan in 2019, was 329, which improved to 224 in 2020 and 169 in 2021.
According to Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta, steps taken by JMC to make a rise in yearly ranking, included Door to Door awareness in all 75 wards initiated by IEC Team, such as Nukkad Nataks (street plays), Painting & Music Competitions, Training of youth and education institutions.
One of the important components of Swachh Survekshan 2021 survey was getting citizens feedback on Swachh Survekshan 2021 App, where 7 important questions regarding Swachh Survekshan 2021 were asked to local citizens. JMC successfully gained a total 50000 plus feedback within three months.
Commissioner Avny Lavasa also said that JMC is putting extra efforts in achieving the goal of Swachh Bharat Mission for which special sanitation drives, fogging drives, door to door collection of waste and upgradation of deep drains/nallahs etc. are being undertaken to provide sanitation at door steps. The drives shall continue in future to achieve better ranking in coming Swachh Survekshan and for this, the cooperation of every citizen of the city is required because it is a joint effort and jointly we can achieve the better ranking,” she added.
