‘International Day for elimination of violence against women” observed

JAMMU, Nov 25: “International Day for the elimination of violence against women” was observed today by various educational and social institutions across Jammu region.
To mark the occasion, Jammu and Kashmir Bharat Scouts and Guides conducted a seminar on the topic “End the violence against women now” at its headquarter, Gandhi Nagar (Jammu). Squadron Leader Shivangi (Indian Air Force) was the chief guest on this occasion where as I D Soni, (former State Commissioner), MM Joshi (State Commissioner AR), Matri Jain, State Commissioner (G) and Usha Chuni, State Organizing Commissioner (G) were the guests of honour. All the dignitaries expressed their views on the topic. Guides/Rangers from various units also spoke on the subject. Principals of various schools also graced the occasion.
IQAC in collaboration with “The Internal Complaint Committee for Sexual Harassment of Women” of Government Degree College (GDC) Kunjwani organized a symposium on “The International Day for the elimination of violence against women”. The programme was presided over by Principal of the College, Prof Hans Raj. He spoke at length about the rising violence against women. Dr Arti Pandoh Gupta (convener IQAC) highlighted the role of gender based education to drive out violence against women. The event also witnessed the participation of about 30 students.
GDC Basohli celebrated International day for elimination of violence against women under the guidance of Principal, GDC Basohli, Dr Nidhi Kotwal. An online lecture was organized on the occasion. The lecture was delivered by Dr Mukesh Kumari, Assistant Professor in Hindi, GDC for Women, Kathua. She pointed out different reasons and causes of domestic violence, and various social issues related to violence against women. She opined that education of women and awareness about various Government initiatives and laws for the safety of women are some of the main solutions to eradicate the evil of domestic violence.
To celebrate the Day, GDC Thannamandi Women Development Cell organized a poster making competition on the topic “Stop Violence against Women”. The programme was held under the patronship of the College Principal Prof (Dr) Javaid Ahmed Qazi. Out of all the participants, Javaria Khan of BSc 1st Semester secured 1st rank, Uzma Jaral of 3rd semester secured 2nd rank while as Assia Malik of 3rd semester and Shahreen Mirza of 1st semester shared 3rd rank.
GDC Ukhral organized an awareness programme on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The programme was organized with the purpose to aware and sensitizes the students about the gender equality and violence’s against the women in the society. The session was inaugurated by the College Principal Prof (Dr) Ranvijay Singh in which he talked about the various kinds’ of violation against the women. The resource person on the occasion was Dr Akhtar Rasool. Various students participated and presented their views on the issue.
