Tapping into rural talent

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Tap into rural talent for atheletics’ DE  July 23.
Milkha Singh also known as ‘Flying Sikh’ has very well said that tapping into rural talent can lead the country to excellence in sports.
There is no denying the fact that 70 percent of Indian population lives in villages. Therefore the sports bodies should concentrate on village to find  new talents. But it is very dismaying that it is the rural area which has often been neglected by the sports bodies. Since their activities remain confined to urban areas, they never think of moving beyond this domain. With the result, the talent available in rural areas remains untapped. Consequently, no player of substance emerges on the top as has been reported, most of the players who made a name at national and international level have comes rural areas. Indian women boxer Mary Kom who won many awards in boxing also hails from a remote area in  Manipur. So there is urgent need to frame a policy which will focus on promoting rural sports and tapping into talent prevailing there.
Yours etc…..
