Gujarati leaders of BJP, Cong to start poll meetings in UP

LUCKNOW, July 25: Poll preparation for both the BJP and the Congress in Uttar Pradesh would get a boost next week when the Gujarati leaders would launch their direct interaction with the state party leaders to finalise the strategy for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
With Gujarati leaders fighting all out in UP for both BJP and Congress, crucial meetings of both the parties are slated on July 30 to chalk out the strategy for the 80 seats of the state in the coming geeral elections.
BJP general secretary and in-charge of UP Amit Shah would hold a one-day meeting with the party leaders here to assess the poll preparedness of the party and review the names of the candidates for the LS polls.
Similarly, his rival and Congress general secretary Madhusudan Mistri would camp in Lucknow for two days from July 30 to take a first hand information about the party’s base in different areas. Mr Mistri is also the in-charge of UP.
BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak said here today, “the July 30 meeting of BJP is important as Mr Shah will review the names of the candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.”
Several other senior BJP leaders, including the four joint in-charges along with Mr Shah, UP BJP president Laxmikant Bajpai and others would be present in the meeting.
“Mr Shah will also take the first hand report of the district and Lok Sabha in-charges besides will review the organisational set up,” he added.
UP Congress spokesperson Amarnath Agarwal said here that Mr Mistri would reach here on July 30 and on the first day of his visit, he will meet the leaders of the frontal organisations like NSUI, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and Seva Dal.
On the second day, Mr Mistri would be meeting all the Union Ministers from UP, MPs, MLAs along with district and city presidents to assess the party’s programme and strategy for the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Mr Mistri would be accompanied by UP Congress president Nirmal Khatri on both days.
Meanwhile, confusion prevails over appointment of district and city presidents in UP without any official announcement by the party leadership.
Sources said district and city presidents of Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Basti, Kanpur, Unnao, Ambedkarnagar, Gonda and other districts have been made but there was no official word from the party.
“The appointed district and city presidents were conveyed about their new assignment on telephone from New Delhi and they have been asked to keep it a close secret,” sources said.
In some districts there are contradiction on the names which has led to the confusion.
The UP Congress is yet to announce the state executive committee even after around one year of the appointment of Mr Khatri.
