Srinagar, Nov 29: Weatherman today forecast widespread light to moderate snowfall and rains in plains of Jammu and Kashmir.
A Meteorological department official said that due to snow and freezing temperatures there is possibility of temporary disruption of traffic over passes like Zojila, Sinthan Top, Razdan Top and Mughal Road.
“A Western Disturbance is most likely to affect J&K during 5-7th December. Widespread light to moderate snowfall and rain in plains is expected during the period,” the official said.
“Some places on higher reaches (above 2000m) may receive heavy snow( 1-2 feet) whereas plains are likely to receive 2-3 inches of snow. As of today, there’s “no forecast” of heavy snow and rain in plains”, he said.
“There is possibility of disruption of traffic over passes like Zojila, Sinthan Top, Razdan Top, Mugal Road due to snow and freezing temperatures”, he said.
Meanwhile freezing conditions continued in Kashmir and Ladakh with Srinagar, recording minus 1.1 degree Celsius against previous night’s minus 0.2 degree Celsius. On November 23, the mercury settled at minus 2.3 degree Celsius in Srinagar which is lowest temperature recorded so far this season in the city.
Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.0 degree Celsius against minus 1.3 degree Celsius the previous night. It is minus 1.0 degree Celsius below normal for Qazigund for this time of the year.
Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 3.4 degree Celsius against minus 3.0 degree Celsius on previous night. It was coldest place in entire Valley today.
Kokernag recorded a low of minus 0.5 degree Celsius against minus 0.2 degree Celsius the previous night and normal of 0.4 degree Celsius.
Kupwara recorded a low of minus 1.6 degree Celsius against minus 1.4 degree Celsius the previous night.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum of minus 2.2 degree Celsius against minus 1.5 degree Celsius the previous night.
Leh recorded a low of minus 9.0 degree Celsius against last night’s minus 7.7 degree Celsius while Kargil town recorded a low of minus 3.5 degree Celsius. Drass recorded a low of minus 11.2 degree Celsius.
