KATHUA, Nov 30: The link road from Lowang main road to Baugh in tehsil Bani in district Kathua is in worst condition.
Though construction of the road was started in 1997 but till date it has not been completed after the work was abandoned.
According to residents of the area the four kilometer road was sanctioned in District Plan, but hardly cutting of on one kilometer is completed in 24 years that too without any side walls and protection walls. Neither the earth work nor the blacktopping of this road has been started till date. This road is prone to accidents as it is in worst condition at present.
Any untoward incident can happen on this road any time if attention is not paid and its construction taken up in hand. The people of Baugh village demanded an inquiry why this four kilometer road has not been completed even after 24 years and who is responsible for this grave negligence?
People of village Baugh including some prominent citizens including Mudasar Ali, Abdul Rashid Malik, Mohammad Hussain Malik, Mohamed Ayaz Malik, Mohamed Shah Din, Shabir Ahmed Malik, Mohamed Saraz Malik, ex Panchayat Chairman Liaqat, Ali Malik have made an appeal to Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, District Development Commissioner, Kathua and concerned department to carry out the construction work and blacktopping of the neglected road on fast track basis from main road Lowang to Baugh and put this road under State Plan instead of District Plan so that the general public of the surrounding area is benefited from this road.
The former MLA Bani, Jeewan Lal said that he does not know that the construction of the road was started in 1997 but after he became MLA in 2014 the construction of this road was started under District Plan but some people objected its construction as their houses were falling in the road and they got the work stopped.
He said now the road has been kept under PMGSY plan. It is among the 32 roads in Bani area kept under PMGSY. He expressed the hope that in March April after the list of roads is released, its construction will be started.
Jeewan Lal said under PMGSY people whose houses or shops come under the road construction are being paid due compensation so no body will have objection for construction of road while no compensation is paid under District Plan which was the reason that people got work stopped.
