SRINAGAR, Dec 3: In a gesture to show compassion towards the lesser privileged sections of the society, IAS officers’ Wives Association (IASOWA, J&K) today launched a campaign to distribute winter stockings among Orphans. The ‘donation drive’ was held at Banquet Hall in Srinagar where blankets, pherans, thermals and socks were distributed among the underpriviledged children.
The function was organised under the supervision of President IASOWA, J&K, Dr. Amita Mehta, wife of Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta.
Her vision is ‘bring smiles and happiness to all faces’.
IASOWA members Mehak Shahid, Sadaf Aijaz and Geetanjali Singla (treasurer of IASOWA, J&K) led the donation drive in Srinagar zone.
Spokesperson of the organisation said “for most of us, the idea of winter means making arrangements for heating at homes, putting up warm clothing and sipping kehwa/coffee sitting besides the fire. It is our responsibility to take care of such people especially children who are in need. The realty remains that for those in difficult conditions , every drop in the temperature level is a fight for survival.
The spokesperson further said “we will try our best to extend maximum help to the underpriviledged people during winter in the valley.”
There is no better gift than providing warm clothing to the needy during the winter season. Many elders and children experience bitterness of winter and are at a great risk of suffering from severe illnesses, she said.
The dip in temperature levels makes them vulnerable, but at the same time it has given us an opportunity to serve humanity by donating winter accessories to the needy. There cannot be a bigger satisfaction than making someone’s life better during harsh winter spell of the Valley, she added.
