JKTWA demands relief in passenger tax, permit renewal

JAMMU, Dec 5: All J&K Transport Welfare Association (JKTWA) has urged upon the J&K Transport authorities to provide relief to the transporters in passenger tax and renewal of route permit.
In a meeting of the Association held here today under the leadership of Vijay Singh Chib (president), the members including representatives from various transport unions, the speakers appealed the Government to provide some relief in passenger tax of all the commercial passenger vehicles as they were not able to pay such a huge amount due to turmoil during last few years.
It was requested that the route permits of commercial passenger vehicles which due for depositing passenger tax and further to be renewed in Transport Commissioner’s office and other districts of J&K UT. They said from October 31, 2021 a penalty of Rs 50 per day has already been impiosed as late feein delay of renewal of route permits of the vehicles. Moreover Traffic officers and Mobile Magistrates are imposing huge fine which is another problem. The transporters are suffering huge losses in their business. They have already suffered immensely due to Covid lockdowns since March 2020. The UT Govt must come out for the rescue of the transporters, they maintained.
