JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Dec 6: The Department of Income Tax today continued outreach programs and Taxpayers Awareness Camps in the district Samba and Udhampur of Jammu Province and in Budgam and Ganderbal in Kashmir province.
These programs were held jointly with CGST Department to know about the problems being faced by the people in making compliance with tax matters and their expectations from the coming Budget-2022.
These outreach programs were held with the representatives from various trade representatives, fruit growers, dry fruit merchants, hotel & bar association, industries association, Swarnkar Sangh, readymade garment association, the local youth, small shopkeepers and tax professionals in large numbers.
At Udhampur, Mona Singh, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax ReFAC AU made participants aware about the benefits available to senior citizens, rebate under Section 87A, measures to curb black money and Benami transactions and steps to discourage cash transactions.
The ease of obtaining e-PAN through Aadhar was also highlighted. It was further informed that Annual Information Statement (AIS) is being shared with all taxpayers on e-filing portal containing all their financial and tax related information available with the department.
Kannav Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, CGST, also educated the gathering about the new provisions of CGST and solutions to the problems being faced on the provisions of the Act. The meeting was attended by Shyam Saroop Kalsotra, Chairman Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Udhampur, Jitender Vermani, President Trade Association, Vikram Slathia, President Hotel and Bar Association, Advocate Rajeev Gupta, President Income Tax Bar Association, students and a woman entrepreneur Tripta Sharma in charge of J&K’s only ISI Interlocking Tile Unit and other representatives of the trade fraternity.
At Samba, the programme was chaired by Mahesh Kumar Rustogi, Pr. Commissioner CGST Jammu, Rakesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax and other senior officers of the two departments.
Rakesh Kumar in his keynote address the department shall treat every taxpayer as honest unless there is a reason to believe otherwise. At the same time the “Taxpayer’s Charter” casts a duty on all citizens to declare their income truly and correctly and file Income Tax Returns in time.
The program was attended by Latit Mahajan, President Bari Brahmana Industrial Association, Tejinder Singh, President Vyapar Mandal Samba, Surinder Mahajan, President Vyapar Mandal, Vijaypur, Vijay Aggarwal, President Industrial Asssociation, Samba and other representatives of trade federations.
At Budgam, Rajeev Gubgotra, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar threw light on new Income Tax provisions and counted its benefits. He informed the traders regarding various sections of presumptive taxation scheme of the Income Tax, which provide facility of filing return without accounts audited and without the need to maintain books of accounts.
At Ganderbal, Assistant Comm-issioner of Income Tax, Abhishri urged and motivated the audience to contribute to the task of nation building as honest and proud taxpayers. At both the awareness programmes, special emphasis was given to encourage the locals to pay their taxes diligently since tax collection and socio-economic development go hand in hand.
The issues raised by the public at large were about technical difficulties faced by them on e-filing portal, TDS mismatch. People also requested for tax exemptions to employees in J&K on the lines of Sikkim.
Besides outreach programs, “Taxpayers Awareness Camps” were also organized at Samba, Udhampur and Srinagar station and same will continue tomorrow to address the problems being faced by the taxpayers.
Feedback from the people was taken by the two departments on taxation issues and their aspirations from the coming Union Budget. The officers noted the points raised by the participants, collected feedback forms and promised to communicate the same to the appropriate forum.
