Tributes paid to 1971 war hero

JAMMU, Dec 7: Glowing tributes were paid to Martyr Mohan Lal Lakhotra, Vir Chakra, who sacrificed his life in defending Chhamb Sector in 1971 Indo-Pak war.
Wreath laying ceremony was performed at the memorial of martyr on Gho-Manassan road where retired army-men, their family members, many locals and others paid tributes to the martyr.
Speaking on the occasion R.L Kaith said that martyr Mohan Lal was manning Medium Machine Gun on the night of December 7, 1971 when the enemy attacked in strength with heavy artillery support.
He said that undeterred, Lakhotra kept on firing at the enemy stalling his advance, thereby enabling our troops to re-organise for a counter attack as a result of which the enemy was forced to retreat.
Before martyrdom Lakhotra had neutralized 19 enemy men including their Company Commander and was posthumously awarded Vir Chakra for displaying gallantry and determination of a high order.
A resolution was passed to urge the Government for renaming Govt Middle School Pouni Chack after martyr Mohan Lal.
Prominent among others who participated in the programme included Ghari Lal Lakhotra, Satish Mandi, Duni Singh Motten, Rachpal R. Kaith, Des Raj Kaith, Suraj Parkash Sargotra, Dev Raj Tugga and Rinku Chanjotra.
