UP man among 2 die in Jammu, 2 in Valley
College closed as staff members found infected in Valley

JAMMU, Dec 7: Two persons including one hailing from Uttar Pradesh died of COVID-19 while 29 others tested positive in Jammu region today including another female IAS officer and a traveler from Ireland. Two casualties and 103 cases were registered in Kashmir division and nine in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
A 48-year-old man hailing from Shrawasti in Uttar Pradesh, presently putting up in Roop Nagar Jammu, died of COVID-19 and co-morbidities in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu while an 80-year-old man from Deot Majalta in Udhampur district succumbed to virus and ailments at Military Hospital Udhampur.
The UP man wasn’t vaccinated while Majalta man was fully vaccinated.
Another female IAS officer, also posted as an Administrative Secretary in the Civil Secretariat, today tested positive for COVID-19. This is for the second time that she has been found infected.
Few days back, another female IAS officer and Administrative Secretary, had reported positive for pathogen.
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man hailing from Rampura in Shastri Nagar, who reached Jammu Airport from Ireland via New Delhi, today tested positive for COVID-19.
He had COVID negative report from Ireland as well as New Delhi Airport but tested positive in Jammu.
Doctors said his sample was taken at Jammu Airport and he was allowed to go home where he remained for some time with his mother till he tested positive. He has been shifted to DRDO Hospital at Bhagwati Nagar. His contact tracing is on.
Doctors said his sample has been sent for Genome Sequencing to test him for Omicron variant.
Among 29 positive cases in Jammu division, 14 were recorded in Jammu district, seven in Doda, three each in Poonch and Doda and one each in Udhampur and Rajouri districts.
Twenty six persons recovered from the virus.
Jammu region now has 1,25,414 Corona cases. Out of them, 1,22,795 have recovered from the virus and there have been 2185 casualties. Number of active positive cases in Jammu division stood at 431.
All nine COVID positive cases in the UT of Ladakh were reported from Leh district.
Ladakh now has 270 active positive cases including 249 in Leh district and 21 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported two deaths due to COVID-19 while 103 persons tested positive for the viral infection. Islamia College of Science and Commerce in Srinagar has been closed for five days after some staff members of the Institution tested positive for the infection.
The administration of the College today ordered closure of the institution till December 11 for all kind of activities after some staff members tested positive for COVID-19.
“In view of surge in COVID-19 cases, the College had arranged testing of staff members and students starting from today in a phased manner”, Principal of the College Prof Sheikh Ajaz Bashir said here.
“On the first day of testing, some staff members tested positive,” the order issued by the Principal read.
“To avoid any further surge in cases, it is hereby ordered that College will remain closed up to Saturday the 11th of December, 2021 for all kind of activities,” the order read, adding “on re-opening of College on 13-12-2021 the students will attend the classes as per the timetable already notified.”
Further, he said, during the closure of the College, faculty members will conduct the classes in online mode through College LMS as per timetable in vogue.
“Furthermore, all staff members shall report on 10th of Dec, 2021 in the College for an RTPCR test without fail,” he said, adding, “students will also visit nearest Health Centre and get their RTPCR test done on 10th of December.”
Two persons who were suffering from the COVID infection succumbed today in Kashmir taking the death toll in J&K to 4485 including 2299 in Kashmir.
Srinagar reported 32 cases, Baramulla 19, Budgam 25, Pulwama 5, Kupwara 8, Anantnag 1, Bandipora 6, Ganderbal 6 and Kulgam 1.
Moreover, 188 Covid-19 patients recovered during the time, including 162 from Kashmir.
So far 331959 patients have recovered, leaving active case tally at 1601 including 1170 in Kashmir.
