Floral tribute paid to Shamsher Singh on his 20th martyrdom day

JAMMU, Dec 9: Floral tribute was paid to martyr Shamsher Singh Manhas, Deputy Commandant 151 BN, BSF on his 20th martyrdom day who laid down his life while fighting terrorists on December 9, 2001 in Kulgam area of South Kashmir.
A tribute ceremony in this regard was organised at Government Girls High School, Jourian today in which Shamsher Singh Manhas senior BJP leader and ex MP (Rajya Sabha) was the chief guest and Suraj Singh Bhau, Vice-Chairman DDC Jammu, Balbir Singh Bhau, BDC Chairman, Block Khour, Bhushan Bral, DDC Bhalwal Brahmana, Anil Kumar Thakur SDM Khour, Surinder Singh, Tehsildar Akhnoor, Varun Jandiyal, SDPO Akhnoor and Executive Officer Municipal Committee Jourian were the guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Shamsher Singh Manhas ex MP appealed the people to follow the courage and sacrifice of the martyr by upholding the national spirit. He urged that the budding generation shall be encouraged and trained to sacrifice in the interest of nation.
Born in a farmer’s family of Rajput dynasty, martyr Manhas was very brave right from his childhood and was very good in studies also. He was awarded Police Medal for distinguished services in the militancy prone area of Kashmir valley.
Shamsher Singh Manhas endorsed the long pending demand of the public of the area that every effort should be made to rename the Government Higher Secondary School, Jourian or Government Girls High School, Jourian on the name of martyr Dy Commandant Shamsher Singh Manhas.
It was also demanded that a Shaheed Dy Commandant Shamsher Singh Memorial Trust be constituted in the near future as a mark of respect to the martyr.
Dr. Rakesh Bharti, Assistant Professor conducted the proceedings of the programe. Guard of Honour was presented by the 46BN Akhnoor on the occasion. The family of the martyr expressed its gratitude to all the guests who attended the function.
