NEW DELHI, Dec 10:
The Supreme Court today directed the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to examine the requests of various industries and other organisations over relaxation for resumption of industrial activities and opening of schools within a week.
“We expect the Commission (CAQM) will look into this in a week’s time,” a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice (CJI) Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana and also comprising Justices Dr Dhananjaya Yashwant Chandrachud and Surya Kant, observed.
The Court said that given the improvement in ambient air quality of Delhi and NCR, relaxation in resumption of industrial activities and opening of schools will be decided within a week by the CAQM in Delhi and NCR, in consultation with concerned states.
The apex court was hearing a petition filed by Aditya Dubey, seeking appropriate directions and orders to the authorities concerned for controlling pollution in Delhi-NCR, keeping in view the rising pollution levels in Delhi-NCR, with Air Quality Index (AQI) plunging to ‘severe’ category in the month of November.
