JAMMU, Dec 11: An agreement on modalities for formal handing over and taking over of Sawalkote HE Project (1856 MW) has been signed between NHPC Limited and JKSPDC Limited.
The agreement has been signed by Rajan Kumar, Executive Director on behalf of NHPC Limited and Manjeet Kotwal, Executive Director (Civil) on behalf of JKSPDC Limited in the presence of Mohammad Hussain Teli, GM (Hydro), Santosh Kumari, FA&CAO, JKSPDC and Satnam Singh, GM (C), SK Jena, GM (F) and P Sathyamurthi, GM (HR).
An MoU was signed on 03.01.2021 between UT of J&K and NHPC for development of five hydroelectric projects of 4134 MW through NHPC and its joint ventures with Government of J&K. Development of these projects shall involve investment of approximately Rs 35000 crores in J&K which would lead to overall development of UT of J&K including creation of direct and indirect employment to the people of J&K. At present, works on various Hydroelectric Projects are going on and in the coming 5 to 7 years, J&K will be able to develop hydro power more than what has been developed in the UT till now.
NHPC has established a dependable and significant presence in J&K and has made its presence in 15 Projects with 9130 MW in the UT including through joint ventures with the full support of J&K Govt. and under the present dynamic leadership of AK Singh, CMD, NHPC works on various hydroelectric projects in J&K are in full swing. J&K shall be able to develop power and achieve Atam Nirbhar goal in power sector in the next 5-7 years.
Sawalkote HE Project is situated in the District Ramban and Udhampur of J&K and the development of Sawalkote HE Project shall involve investment of approximately Rs 20000 crores in the area which would lead to overall development of the area.
