JAMMU, Dec 15: J&K People’s Revolutionary Society, chairman, Mir Ghulam Rasool Butwani has demanded opening of more timber depots of Forest Corporation in rural areas for providing timber to people on controlled rates.
In a statement issued here, today, Mir said that people living in rural areas near the forests are facing difficulty in getting timber for construction of their residential houses and the timber issued by the Forest Corporation to these depots is sub standard.
He made an appeal to Commissioner Secretary Forests, seeking his personnel intervention in the matter to redress the grievances of the people.
Mir said, while the people living in urban areas get standard and A class timber however the rural belt is totally ignored by the Government where the low quality timber is being issued on depots. He said five timber depots were opened in Wakura block of Ganderbal district earlier which have now been reduced to one only with the result the people do not get the timber for construction work.
