Srinagar, Dec 21: The SMC’s drive against street vendors in Nowhatta today turned violent after a street vendor was injured during the action by the SMC’s Demolition Squad.
The vendors who later staged a protest against what they called the highhandedness of the SMC said that the Squad damaged the goods on sale and also injured one of the street vendors.
The agitated vendors said that it is the SMC that gives them the registration “but one fails why all this being is done to us,” the vendors said.
They said that they are working there for the last several decades, “and today they (SMC) came in all of a sudden, injured one of our friends and also ended up damaging his pottery items,” the vendors alleged.
The vendors said that they are always made to face tough situations and if the administration wants them off the roads, then they should be provided with an alternative. “Where are we going to go; if they don’t want us here, then provide us with a space,” they demanded.
