Kavinder’s dig at Farooq, Azad

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Dec 24: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta lambasted the former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir namely Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Omar Abdullah for unnecessarily crying hoarse over the proposal of the Delimitation Commission to increase six Assembly seats for Jammu and one for Kashmir.
In a statement issued to media here, today, Kavinder Gupta said that there would have been no need for delimitation today, had these very parties while in power in the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir done this long pending demand of reconstitution of constituencies. He asserted that it is only due to the blatant irregularities committed by these leaders that J&K plunged into the dark era of terrorism and violence for around three decades the adverse impact of which can be felt even today.
Defending the proposal of the Delimitation, the former Dy Chief Minister said that the Commission as per the mandate of the Constitution and due deliberations with the Election Commission has put forth its recommendations only after a lot of hard-work to do justice to the deprived communities as well as the regions across Jammu and Kashmir. He added that substantial sections of the society that had been deprived of their due rights for 70 years during the regime of these leaders belonging to National Conference, the PDP and the Congress will get their rights on implementation of this proposal and that is why this does not auger well for the reasons not difficult to fathom.
Kavinder said that the opposition to the Delimitation Commission’s proposal is a drama rather conspiracy by these former CMs and their parties against the people of this Union Territory and during the past few years people have come to realize that they are their biggest enemies. He said that it is known to one and all that and during their rule, they failed to provide justice to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, West Pakistani refugees, Valmiki Samaj, Gorkhas, nationalist Kashmiris and even Pahari-speaking people and now they want to create hurdles in their empowerment by hook or crook.
He said that with all these deprived communities getting due rights at the behest of BJP Government, they are feeling uncomfortable as they can clearly see their political turf decreasing with each passing day.
