Empower Pandits politically: KPC

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Dec 24: Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) today said that the delimitation or any other process in J&K cannot be complete or fair if the rights of the Kashmiri Pandits living in exile are not taken into account and they are not rehabilitated at one place at their ancestors land of Kashyap in the Kashmir Valley with their due representation in new UT Assembly and Parliament.
In a letter to Justice Ranjana Prakash Desi, Chairperson Delimitation Commission, Union Territory of J&K, he said that political dispensations and other antinational and anti Hindu elements in Kashmir always made their best efforts to diminish and damage the sovereignty of the nation and persuaded Kashmiri majority population, Pakistan and others to meddle in the affairs of the country and also exploited the religious apartheid that culminated in the ethnic cleansing of over four lakh Kashmiri Pandits , presently in exile for the last 32 years.
He said the breach of faith that negates the very concept of India as a secular pluralistic nation and which has been deliberately overlooked, the ethnic cleansing of a quarter million Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley is open historical fact of brute majoritarianism which wanted separation from India. The basic depravity of this act cannot be mitigated by any so-called extenuating factor.
He said it is also imperative that the political leadership of the Valley and the civil society of Kashmir should realize, adopt nationalistic approach, refrain from trifling with sovereignty and be in sync with the rest of India with regard to democratic and secular principles. That alone is the way forward to bringing peace and abundance to Kashmir.
Besides, Kashmiri Pandits, who are living as refugees in their own country for the last over three decades are homeless , landless and hence need due attention, which has remained unrepresented all along due to the gerrymandering of constituencies in the Valley.
In an appeal to Delimitation Commission he demanded that such a recommendation be sent to the President and the Government of India that settles the unsettled important political and other issues concerning Kashmiri Pandit community. It will also help in paving way for the resettlement of the Kashmiri Pandits at one place in the Valley, as per their geopolitical aspirations, constitutional and institutional guarantees in the days to come.
