JAMMU : Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today appointed former judge Gou-sul-Nissa Jeelani as the 2nd Vigilance Commissioner of the state.
The appointment of retired Principal District and Sessions Judge Gou-sul-Nissa Jeelani shall take effect from the date she assumes charge of the post in the State Vigilance Commission, said a notification issued by the state government today.
With the appointment of Jeelani as Vigilance Commissioner, the vacancy in SVC has been filled and is now complete with a Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) and two Vigilance Commissioners.
State Vigilance Commission in J-K was made operational with the appointment of former Director General of J-K Police, Kuldeep Khoda as CVC and former IAS officer R K Jerath as Vigilance Commissioner on February 11 and one post of VC had remained vacant.
It was nearly two years ago that the state Legislature had approved a bill for setting up of SVC in Jammu and Kashmir. However, its constitution was delayed due to finalisation of names for the posts of SVC and VCs.
A high level committee had approved the appointment of Khoda as the CVC and Senior retired IAS officer Jerath on May 28 last year. (AGENCIES)
