One killed, massive damage due to cloudburst

KISHTWAR, Aug 1: One person was killed and Government as well as private property suffered damages due to a cloudburst in remote area of the district early this morning.
Reports said that cloudburst struck Gratnar Sigdi village in the Chatroo tehsil early this morning triggering mudslides and flash floods in the local nullah. One Chuni Lal, son of Thakur Dass of Gwarian, who was working in a Gharat established near the nullah was killed after being hit by debris flowing in the nullah.
Within short span of time, nullah got filled with huge boulders as a result of which the debris started flowing out of it and caused huge damage to the only road connecting several areas. The debris also caused damage to Government as well as private infrastructure in two Panchayats besides causing immense damage to the agricultural fields and orchards.
On getting information about the natural calamity, civil and police administration swung into action and started rescue operation. Army also came forward to the help of people in affected areas and even got the body of Chuni Lal recovered from the debris.
According to the reports, 2 to 3 meter of debris got accumulated on both sides of nullah and around 28 Gharats which were established by the villagers got completely damaged. The power supply in the area also got snapped due to damages to the poles.
Meanwhile, former R&B Minister and MLA Inderwal  G M Saroori demanded relief for the cloudburst victims.
In a press statement issued here today, the Congress MLA  urged the State administration to provide three months free ration to the sufferers.
