3 militants killed in Kulgam gun battle, 3 security men injured in Anantnag

Srinagar, Dec 29: Three militants were killed in a brief encounter with security forces in Mirhama area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district this evening while three security men were injured in an ongoing gun battle in Anantnag district.
An official said that three militants were killed in a brief exchange of firing at Mirhama in a shootout. However, the identity of the militants is yet to be ascertained.
Earlier, police and Army launched a cordon and search operation in the area this evening after inputs about the presence of three militants in the village. As the security forces approached near the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering off an encounter in which three militants were killed.
Security forces also launched another operation in Nowgam area of Anantnag district after inputs about the presence of militants hiding in the area.
An official said that a joint team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched a search operation in the village.
“As the joint team of security forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter,” he said.
“During initial exchange of fire, militants managed to escape from spot where initial exchange took place, but it can’t be said whether they managed to break the cordon or not. However, search operation has been launched in the entire area to track down the hiding militants”, he added.
He said that in the initial exchange of firing a cop and two soldiers of 19 RR have received injuries who were shifted to nearby hospital for treatment. He identified the injured as Rohit Yadav and Ishant of 19 RR and policeman as Deepak Kumar.
The search operation in the area is going on.
