One killed, 3 seriously injured in truck-sumo collision

RAMBAN, Jan 2: One person was killed and three others were seriously injured when a truck after colliding head on with a sumo plunged into a deep gorge at Nachlana in Ramsoo area.
According to the reports, the mishap occurred last night at about 9 PM on National Highway. As per the reports, the truck bearing registration number JK09-6847 which was on its way from Srinagar to Jammu, first collided with a Tata sumo (registration number JK02AG-5886) coming from opposite side collided and then fell into a 50-60 feet deep gorge along the Highway.
In the accident, the sumo got completely damaged while one person namely Mohd Shafi son of Mohd Ismail, resident of Hingni (Ramsoo) died on spot. The three other persons received serious injuries in the mishap. They were identified as Sumo driver Manzoor Ahmed (30) of Chakka Sarbagni (Ramsoo), truck driver Mohd Amin Dar (25) son of Ghulam Nabi Dar of Bandipora (Srinagar) and conductor of the truck, Hillal Ahmed (23) son of Ghulam Mohi ud din of Bandipora.
As soon as the information reached to Ramsoo police, a team of police officials and QRT reached the spot and launched the rescue operation but in view of darkness, the rescue operation took more than one hour. The body of the deceased and the injured persons were immediately rushed to Sub District Hospital Banihal where the injured persons were provided adequate medical treatment and their condition was stated to be stable when the last reports came in.
In this connection, Ramsoo police had registered a case under relevant sections and started investigation.
