3 drug peddlers held with charas, poppy straw

SRINAGAR, Jan 2: Police in a series of actions today said to have arrested 3 drug peddlers in Budgam and Awantipora while recovering huge quantities of contraband substances from their possession.
In Budgam, police said, a police party of PS Beerwah at a checkpoint established at Chewdara crossing intercepted 3 suspicious persons who on seeing the Police party tried to escape from the spot but the alert police party chased them and apprehended 2 persons tactfully, however, one of them managed to escape from the spot.
“The arrested persons have been identified as Ghulam Qadir Malik son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik resident of Shunglipora Khag and Sameer Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Tariq Wani resident of Kulhama Beerwah. During checking, officers were able to recover 350gms of Charas from their possession. They have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody,” police said.
Preliminary investigation, police said, reveals the identity of another person as Tanveer Ahmed Ganie son of Mohammad Yousuf Ganie resident of Sadipora Beerwah and efforts are on to effect his arrest.
Similarly in Awantipora, police said, PS Tral received specific information that a person namely Fayaz Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat resident of Buchoo Tral has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a huge quantity of narcotic substance in his residential house.
On receipt of this information, a Police party headed by SHO PS Tral along with the Executive Magistrate raided the specific location.
“During the search, officers were able to recover 111 Kgs grinded Poppy Straw from the said residential house. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody,” police said.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in respective Police Stations and further investigation has been initiated.
