Give benefit of PM’s schemes to STs: Hakla

JAMMU, Jan 2: Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi a prominent Gujjar and Bakerwal leader and intellectual of J&K has demanded that Prime Minster, Narendra Modi’s Beti -Bachao, Beti -Padao scheme be launched among Gujjar and Bakerwal Tribe in letter and spirit and the people of the community be allowed to take its full benefit in view of their backwardness and abject poverty.
In a statement issued here, today he said that the community remained deprived of all facilities over the decades as successive governments used them as vote bank only and did not bother for their welfare and development of their areas.
Hakla also made an appeal to Union Government to sanction special package for educational, social, economical, welfare and upliftment of Gujjar and Bakerwal community living in backward and far-flung areas of UT.
He said previous State Governments always ignored the community and deprived them of all the benefits taken by Union Government from time to time for the welfare and betterment of economically weaker sections of the society due to which they are lagging far behind to other communities.
He said with the annulling of the Article 370 a hope has been generated among these communities that Government will take concrete steps for the welfare of women and girl children of the community so that they can achieve success and make progress in every sphere of life.
