CHANDIGARH, Aug 3: Haryana Government today said it will soon be able to provide one lakh houses to below poverty line families, residing in urban areas of the State.
Haryana Principal Secretary, Panchayat and Development and Rural Development Department Ram Niwas, said under a new scheme, the Housing Board will construct 50,000 houses, Local Bodies Department and the Town and Country Planning Department would construct 50,000 houses each, with cooperation of private partners in different areas of the state.
“The Housing Board is constructing 50,000 houses at the cost of Rs 2,000 crore this year out of which work on 25,000 houses is in progress. Each house constructed under this scheme will be built over 300 Sq ft area, and its cost price has been worked out at Rs 4 lakh,” Niwas said.
The State Government has approved a sum of Rs 329 crore for the project.
Twenty per cent plots in the colonies developed by private developers are reserved for EWS and then transferred to the Housing Board at nominal rates.
He said under the Priyadarshani Awaas Yojna, about two lakh houses would be constructed in the rural areas of the State.
Under the scheme, financial assistance amounting to Rs 90,100 is being given to the people in two instalments. About 80,000 people have been registered under the scheme and the first instalment of Rs 25,000 has already been deposited in the bank accounts of 40,000 people, he said. (PTI)
