Wangan Pora sans electricity, residents suffer

SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Amid bone-chilling cold, the residents of Wangan Pora, Chandihar in Eidgah are without electricity for more than 5 days as a result, children and elderly people of the area are facing immense issues.
Scores of residents of the area staged a protest against the PDD urging the higher-ups to intervene in the matter and ensure they get their transformer without any further delay.
“Last Thursday, our transformer was damaged and the ground staff of the PDD took the same for the necessary repairs; after 2 days, they got us the transformer, but before it could be put to use, it was again damaged,” Gulzar Ahmad a resident said, adding that since then they are without electricity.
Residents said that in the harsh winter, they are suffering due to the absence of electricity in the area. “We have patients here who need oxygen supply; we had to get the money from Baitul Maal to get the generators on rent that could ease the difficulties of the patients,” the residents said.
The aggrieved residents urged the PDD authorities to intervene in the matter so that they are given the transformer without any delay. “We appeal the concerned authorities to address our issue on priority,” they said.
