Daily wager succumbs to injuries; family, relatives demand ex-gratia, job

JAMMU, Jan 6: A daily wager engaged by private company succumbed to his injuries during treatment in a hospital outside Jammu and Kashmir.
As per reports, a daily wager namely Vijay Kumar, son of Swaran Lal, a resident of Chak Shera Arnia engaged by a private company was doing some electric work in Kool Kalan area on December 29 last year when he received electric shock.
He was immediately rushed to nearby hospital and later shifted to a hospital outside J&K where he failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries yesterday.
After conducting post-mortem at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
Meanwhile, family members, relatives and villagers held protest and demanded adequate ex-gratia and Government job.
While talking to media persons DDC Member Suchetgarh TS Tony said, “Due to negligence of the PDD officials, a labourer Vijay Kumar lost his life”.
“Raw persons are being hired by private companies to do technical work”, he said, adding that Labour Commissioner should take action against the companies which are hiring untrained persons for technical work.
He demanded appropriate compensation to the family of the deceased and strict action against the officials of PDD for their negligence.
He also appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to prepare a list of incidents like fire, electric shock, drowning, etc. and compensate the families of the victims equally without any disparity.
While talking to media persons, the relatives and the villagers demanded adequate ex-gratia to the family of the deceased viz Government job to one person in the family.
However, a case under FIR Number 94/2021 under Section 304-A IPC has been registered against the Power Development Department (PDD) at Police Station Arnia and the concerned JE along with lineman were detained for questioning.
Further investigation into the case is also going on.
