Canal bank damaged in Ganderbal, people worried

Srinagar, Jan 8: The canal embankment in the Bhadergund area of Ganderbal suffered damage today which has caused panic among the people living in the nearby areas.
In this regard, after locals observed the breach in the embankment, they swiftly informed the local police and the concerned officials of the department who reached the spot to assess the situation.

“This power canal has been constructed in 1957 and since then nothing has been done keeping in view the safety of the locals living in the area. The irony is that the officials who had to keep an eye on things amid inclement weather at such spots were nowhere to be found,” he said.
The locals said that the breach should be rectified without any delay and the spots which are prone to damage should also be identified and necessary steps should be taken.
Officials said who reached the spot to assess the situation said that there was nothing to panic about and that they will take measures to ensure the safety of the people living around.
“It is not a breach of the canal. It has happened due to the road, which is natural; people need not panic. We will ensure the safety of people and all the measures will be taken,” the officials said.
