Implement Beti Bachao, Beti Padao scheme among STs also: Hakla

POONCH, Jan 9: Reiterating his demand for constitution of Schedule Tribe Women Commission in J&K, Shamsher Hakla Poonchi a prominent Gujjar leader and intellectual of the JK UT here today said that this will go a long way in giving justice to this deprived lot of the society.
In a statement, Gujjar and Bakerwal leader said the problems and needs of Gujjar Bakarwals, Gaddi, Sippi, Shina who belong to ST community are quite different than other communities having a unique culture and identity and to preserve the same the constitution of a ST Women Commission is the need of the hour.
Hakla made an appeal to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in this regard and sought his intervention in the matter so that the problems and difficulties of Gujjar Bakarwal, Gaddi, Sippi and Shina women can be resolved.
He said that the literacy rate among Gujjar and Bakarwal women in J&K is very low and concerted efforts need to be taken in this regard by the Government. He said the Beti-Bachao and Beti Padhao scheme of Prime Minister be also implemented in letter and spirit in Gujjar and Bakarwal Bastis as even after 75 years of independence majority of the women folk among the community have been deprived of this facility.
Hakla also made an appeal to Government of India to sanction special package for educational, social, economical welfare and upliftment of Gujjar Bakarwal women of J&K and
alleged that the previous J&K Governments have always neglected them.
He said with the abrogation of Article 370 the community is hopeful that Government will take concrete steps to improve their lot.
