NEW DELHI, Jan 12: Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday once again slammed the Congress and Punjab Government on the alleged breach in the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the state, and questioned as to who was to benefit from putting the PM’s life at risk.
“Police officials from Punjab have said they informed the Punjab Government about the PM security breach, but the state government did not take action. The PM’s security team was told route is safe. Who are the senior officials of Punjab who did not take any steps despite the alert,” Irani questioned.
“Why did the DGP in Punjab gave an all clear to the PM’s route? The question is who in Punjab govt continued to ignore the threats to PM’s security,” she said.
“I reiterate the questions to Congress high command. Why were security measures, which are protocol for the honourable Prime Minister, deliberately breached in active connivance of Congress government in Punjab,” Irani questioned.
PM Modi could not attend a rally in Ferozepur in Punjab on January 5 after his motorcade got stuck on a flyover for around 20 minutes due to a roadblock by protesters. The incident took place around 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday appointed former Apex Court Judge Indu Malhotra to head the investigation into the alleged security breach. (UNI)
