Introduction of Sharda script in primary classes demanded

JAMMU, Jan 29: Maintaining that Sharda script is a segmental writing system of the Brahmnic family of scripts, Sushma Premi Trakroo who is teaching the Sharda to many aspirants through online today appealed both Government of India and J&K Government to introduce this script in primary classes.
Sushma said the script was affecting a large number of people between 8th and 12th century in the North Western parts of Indian Subcontinent for writing Sanskrit and Kashmiri. Sharda was not only the script that Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir but it was most noticeable script in whole Himalayan region, she added.
She said the script’s concept as insignificant began in the 19th century with the rise of the different form of the Persian script which by the 1950’s had become the official script of the State.
Even when its (Sharda) extent diminished it was still the principal means of inspirational and literary writing in Kashmir un till the late 19th century or early 20th century. By the end of the 20th century the only people still writing in Sharda were Kashmiri Pandits who used it for religious and ceremonial purposes.
Sharda script which is our heritage, is a strong symbol of Kashmiri culture which was destroyed somewhere but it is alive again today. The full credit goes to Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra and Sanjay Pandita, who worked hard in this regard.
She said the online courses being taught free of cost by SSK and other volunteers.
Universities like Himachal Pradesh university provided on year certificate course with minimal fees. lt is not only certificate course but the identity of cultural heritage and inheritance which was lost . January 23 last year was historical event for our community which was signed with memorandum between Sharda Kendra and Himachal Pradesh University that is all syllables in history of India will be written with golden ink, she added.
