Devotees visiting Amareshwar temple to have glimpse of Chhari Mubarak

SRINAGAR : A large number of devotees, including security forces, central government employees, alongwith their families are visiting Shri Amareshwar Temple Akhara Building at Badshah Chowk near here to have the glimpse of Chhari-Mubarak, Silver Mace of Lord Shiva which is also dipicting Goddess Parvati.
Mahant Deependra Giri, custodian of the Chhari, performed ‘Chhari Sthapana’ at the temple yesterday.
The Chhari will be kept in the temple for ‘darshan’ till commencement of main course of pilgrimage on August 16, Mahant Giri said.
He said traditional ‘Chhari-Pujan’ shall be performed tomorrow at 1700 hrs on the occasion of ‘Nag-Panchami’ at Dashnami Akhara.
On August 16, on the occasion of Dashmi, the Chhari will start journey from ‘Dashnami Akhara’ to Holy Caveh shrine in south Kashmir, where the final darshan will be held on August 21 on the occasion of Sharavan-Purnima, Rakshabandan.
However, en route to Pahalgam the Chhari will be taken to several temples, including Martand shrine at Mattan in south Kashmir.
Before 1990, when the turmoil broke out in the valley, the Chhari was taken from Dashnami Akhara shortely before the sun set for night halt at Durganag temple. The entire track from here holy cave was being covered on foot by the devotees, carrying the Chhari.
However, for security reasons, Chhari leave early in the morning in vehicles under security cover to reach Pahalgam in the evening.
