JAMMU, Aug 10: The residents of Shakti Nagar today threatened to hold a protest demonstration by blocking the Jammu-Poonch highway on Monday, to protest against the negligence of JMC, due to which the nallah of the locality has been creating havoc with its filthy water entering into the nearby houses.
The decision was taken by the residents in a meeting held here today to discuss about their problems regarding Shakti Nagar nallah which flows through the middle of the locality.
Harwant Singh Bhau, President of the Shakti Nagar Welfare Forum, while speaking on the occasion said that every year during the rainy season overflowing of this nallah creates havoc like situation in the entire area, as its filthy water flows into the majority of the houses and garbage spreads all across the locality.
“So many times we brought this matter into the notice of concerned department, yet no initiative has been taken to resolve this problem permanently and everybody is just doing the lip service”, he added.
Majority of the houses of Shakti Nagar locality were submerged on Friday morning, as the foul smelling water entered the houses of the locality, which not only damaged their valuable properties, but also created a situation of epidemic in the entire area.
The members resented that though the authorities of the JMC are aware about this, yet no remedial measure has been initiated so for in this area, on its part.
“We even approached the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah last year in this regard, but despite assurance, we did not get anything”, they added.
