UDHAMPUR, Aug 10: Following strong protest by family members and relatives from parental side of a young housewife, who committed suicide yesterday, Police arrested husband of the deceased.
Pinky Devi wife of Pawan Sharma committed suicide by hanging herself at her parental residence Shanker Nagar Udhampur where she was putting up.
This morning, a number of relative of the deceased along with some locals of Udhampur held protest demonstration and blocked Dhar Road demanding arrest of Pinky’s husband and his brother.
After putting body of the deceased on road, they disrupted vehicular movement and raised slogans. Mother of Pinki Devi alleged that Pawan Sharma used to torture the deceased thus ultimately forcing her to commit suicide.
After getting information about the protest, Dy SP Headquarters along with SHO Udhampur rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters. Later Police arrested husband of the deceased as well as his brother.
However, according to Pawan Sharma, the deceased was not staying with him and a case of divorce between them was pending in the court. He was also giving monthly maintenance of Rs 4000 to his deceased wife.
