Govt grants approval for construction of 304 quarters for package employees

JAMMU, Feb 7: The Government today accorded post -facto administrative approval for construction of 304 Two BHK transit accommodation for Kashmiri migrant employees appointed under the PM package at Vessu in Kulgam district of South Kashmir and Sheikhpora in Budgam district of Central Kashmir constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 8982.46 lakh.
Out of 304 flats 208 have been already constructed at Vessu in Kulgam district while 96 flats were constructed at Sheikhpora, Budgam but the payment to constructing agency was delayed for want of approval which has been granted by Administrative Council on January 29.
The Order was issued by DMRR&R Department in this regard here, today following the Administrative Council decision on January 29.
According to sources, the work on construction of these quarters was started in 2015 during the PDP and BJP Government . However the Finance Department had raised the objection over the construction of Two BHK terming it violation of the Central Government’s approval which had been given for the construction of One BHK quarters only with the result the payments to contractors were delayed as the Finance Department did not accord concurrence to the same.
Sources said the One BHK design was changed by then Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed after some migrant delegations met him and demanded that two BHK type sets be constructed on the pattern of earlier quarters constructed during his tenure in 2002 to 2005 at Sheikhpora, Budgam.
Sources said Mufti Mohammed Sayeed approved the construction of 304 Two BHK flats both at Vessu and Sheikhpora and file was approved by the Government also. However the Finance Department raised the query and did not approve the same, sources added.
Sources said after the issue was taken up by the DMRR&R with the higher ups in the Government citing the instruction given by the then CM and approval accorded by the Government alter the Administrative Council in its decision on January 29 this year granted the administrative approval to the construction of 304 flats at Vessu and Sheikhpora respectively.
