Restriction imposed on media in Jammu, internet services snapped

JAMMU :  Jammu district administration today imposed restrictions on media from performing their professional duties while internet services have been snapped in view of Kishtwar clashes which broke out after Eid prayers on August 9.
The district administration has restricted the free movement of the media and the mediapersons were not being allowed to perform their professional duties.
“It is unfortunate that we are considered as fourth pillar of the democracy but not being allowed to perform our duties,” a mediaperson rued.
He alleged that neither the identity cards of their respective organisations are being considered as curfew passes, nor the administration has issued any particular curfew passes for the media fraternity.
The district administration has also banned telecast of local news channels and snapped the cable network to keep people away from routine updates.
Meanwhile at certain places, mediapersons were also seen arguing with the Army and security personnel over their restricted movement.
However, the internet services of all the private service providers have also been snapped for precautionary measures.
“We are not able to access internet as it has been snapped since midnight,” a local said.
Curfew has been imposed in the winter capital during midnight after violence and arson erupted here in some parts of the old city.
