182 pilgrims leave Baltal, Pahalgam base camps for Amarnath

SRINAGAR :  A new batch of 182 pilgrims, including sadhus and women, left Nunwan Pahalgam and Baltal base camps for the holy cave shrine of Amaranath in south Kashmir today.
A total of 724 yatris paid obeisance yesterday.
So far, more than 3.50 lakh pilgrims had paid obeisance at the holy cave since the commencement of the annual pilgrimage, which will conclude on August 21, the Rakshabandhan.
The pilgrimage was gonig on smoothly though the number of pilgrims leaving base camps for the cave has sharply come down because of closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway since Saturday as a precautionary measure following tension after Kishtwar clashes.
A yatra official said the yatris, mostly who had come by air from Delhi or Jammu, left the base camps for the holy cave this morning though the weather was cloudy.
He said only 20 pilgrims, including five women, left  Nunwan Pahalgam base camp early this morning. The pilgrims will have night halt at Chandanwari, he said adding those who had night halt here and other halting stations on the traditional route also started their foot journey towards the Cave shrine.
However, 162 yatris, including 57 women and some sadhus  also left Baltal base camp for the cave shrine early this morning, he  said.
