SC moved for Amarnath pilgrims’ safety in Kishtwar

NEW DELHI :  Panther’s party chief Prof Bhim Singh today filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court urging it to direct Jammu and Kashmir government and the Centre to ensure safe passage for Amarnath pilgrims stranded in curfew-bound Kishtwar district.
The petitioner has contended that the yatra has been stopped due to communal violence in the area. Thousands of pilgrims were facing tremendous hardships without any security arrangements for them.
The pilgrims were not being looked after by the state government and were facing a threat to their lives.
The petition sought the apex court’s intervention claiming that the fundamental right of the pilgrims to life and property was under grave threat.
